Decision making

The University of Helsinki is divided into faculties for the purpose of teaching and research.

At the faculty level, decisions are made by the faculty council. The faculty council has meetings monthly with the exception of the summer time.

The faculty is headed by the dean who is a professor elected by the faculty council. The dean manages and supervises the operations of the faculty, and is also the chair of the faculty council.

The faculty office is in charge of the operation of the faculty, its planning and administration.
